Definition of Sentence Clauses
Clause is the smallest grammatical unit that can express a complete preposition which is has a subject and a verb. There are 2 types of clauses such as independent clause and dependent clause.
1. Independent Clause
Is a group of word that can stand and its own as a sentence. It means that independent clause has a subject, a verb, and its complete thought.
Example: They dance under the rain.
2. Dependent Clause
Is a group of word tht contains a subject and a verb but its not a complete thought. Because of it a dependent clause cannot stand and its own as a sentence.
Example: Because i woke up late this morning.
The types of dependent clause
Dependent clause can be divided in other time of clauses such as:
A. Adverb Clause
Definition
Is a group of word that functions as an adverb in a sentence. It provides additional information about time, place, condition, and more.
Example: 1. I sing because i like singing
2. He thinks he can get anything because he is rich
3. Before dinner, i went for a walk
4. Wherever you go, i'll follow
5. If it rains, we'll stay at home
B. Noun Clause (that, whether, what, who, which, whom, how)
Definition
A noun clause is a type of dependent clause that functions as a noun in a sentence, meaning it can act as a subject, object, or complement.
Example: 1. He knows that i am a dentist
2. I dont know if my brother is at home
3. please tell me who come to the party
4. She believed that i was right
5. I think that you should support your sister
C. Relative Clause
Definition
Is one kind of dependent clause it has a subject and a verb, but can't stand alone as a sentence. It is sometimes called on "Adjective clause" because it functions like an adjectives. If gives more information about noun.
Example: 1. She complained to the man whose dog bit her
2. Christmas day is a day when people are happy
3. We visited the house where our father was born
4. This is the man who comes to the shop everyday
5. They are going to play whose lead actor is Myson
